Fun Projects to Make with Wood Scraps

Chances are, you probably have a pile of wood scraps laying around somewhere, taking up precious space. So, instead of letting the wood go to waste, Wright Building Center has some ideas to transform the scraps of specialty lumber into one of these fun projects!

Wall Mounted Wine Rack

This simple project is a simple build that can easily be customized to fit your space! First, you’ll need to gather your materials. For this DIY, you will need scrap 2×6 board, wood glue, screws, nails, and paint or stain (optional). To assemble the wine rack, determine the size that will work best. Then, assemble a square shaped frame for the rack using the wood glue, nails, and screws. Once you have finished building the frame, it is time to customize the color using paint and stain. Now, you have a beautiful wine rack that is both stylish and functional.

Cutting Board

This DIY looks super complicated and impressive, but is actually fairly simple to make. All you need are scraps of wood and wood glue. To build the cutting board, simply glue these strips of wood together until you reach the size and shape cutting board that you want. Pro Tip- alternate with strips of different types of wood to create more interesting variation. Once you have the cutting board assembled, sand it and finish it with a food safe finish so that it’s ready for use!

Wooden Coasters

These coasters are much like the DIY cutting board. Using wood scraps and wood glue, create an interesting pattern from the scraps and glue them together. Once dry, sand the coasters and apply a finish to help keep moisture out of the wood. Now you have a set of new coasters for your home or to give as a gift!
